Qt is pleased to announce that Qt Design Studio 1.5 is now available through online and offline installers.
Qt Design Studio 1.5 comes with a fully supported 3D editor that allows you to create fully integrated 2D and 3D user interfaces.
The developers took the best concepts from Qt 3D Studio and brought them to Design Studio. It is a single design tool that supports both 2D and 3D.
To optimize collaboration between designers and developers, Qt Design Studio can be used by both designers and developers.
Dock widget system (Docking System)
The most obvious change when first launching Qt Design Studio 1.5 is the integration of dock widgets using the Qt-Advanced-Docking-System. This allows the user to fully customize the workspace, as well as undock any view in the top-level window. Hence the 3D view for QtQuick3D is finally fully integrated.
Qt Design Studio 1.5 comes with predefined workspaces for the most common tasks, but users can easily add and define their own workspaces based on their personal preferences.
The 3D view for QtQuick 3D has received many updates.
The fixtures for various elements, such as lights and cameras, have been completely redesigned, and now each light has a specific visual appearance, giving a clear indication of the type of light source.
Controls of the 3D Camera editor and panning, rotating, zooming and moving are now much more intuitive. The grid can now be turned on and off.
Annotations
Another useful addition is annotations. Elements can now have their own IDs without any syntactical restrictions for annotations. This greatly facilitates collaboration with other users and tools. User IDs from other tools or workflows can be fully preserved and users can easily add comments and additional information to each element.
In addition, each element can now also be annotated. An annotation can describe an element or contain a history of work. This makes it much easier to collaborate with the QML file.
Flow Editor
Qt Design Studio 1.5 also comes with brand new Flow View and Flow View editor. The Flow View editor allows users to define custom application flows, including transition effects and decisions. Flows use the new FlowView module that comes with Qt Design Studio 1.5.
The FlowView module itself is not yet part of Qt and is still part of qt-labs. However, it is fully functional and ready to be tested.
Qt Bridges
Qt Bridge for Sketch now supports Sketch libraries, improved support for Photoshop and Sketch font styles, and fixed many minor issues. Note that Qt Bridges are now separate items in the online installer.
Last but not least, Qt Design Studio contains many bug fixes and minor improvements. Please check the changelog for more details.
As with previous versions, Qt Design Studio 1.5 is also available as a free community edition and is now part of the online installer.
