Wine 4.0 is now officially available as a new annual stable release of Wine for running Windows programs and games on Linux and other operating systems.
After seven weekly releases, Wine 4.0 was ready for release today, according to Wine founder Alexandre Julliard. Wine 4.0 is a major release that introduced initial support for the Vulkan graphics API, Direct3D CSMT enabled by default, early support for Direct3D 12 via VKD3D, continuation of HiDPI, various OpenGL improvements, support for multiple D3D textures, 64-bit improvements, ongoing support Android and more...

Bi-weekly development releases of Wine 4.x will begin with the Git master reopened for feature development, culminating in Wine 5.0 next year. Hopefully Valve's Proton will be reconfigured to the current state of Wine 4.0 soon.
